December 2008
The Whittier Christian High School ASB put servant leadership into action as they traveled to the Skid Row area of Los Angeles to pass out lunches and gift bags to the needy. Students had made lunches and filled the gift bags themselves for distribution. For many students, this was their first time ministering in that manner, and their nervousness was evident. Those nerves turned to excitement as soon as the bus was stopped. Students set up tables on a corner across from the Fred Jordan Mission and passed out lunches. Gift bags filled with pillows, blankets, hats, gloves and more were given to those along the streets. Over 150 lunches and gift bags were distributed within minutes.

As student leaders, the ASB serves the WCHS student body well. On this occasion they had the opportunity to serve others outside of the school. Rachel Farris (WCHS senior) encouraged students to step outside their comfort zone and look beyond the way these people were living to see them as God's creation. As the students gave of themselves they were blessed. They shared Jesus' love with those living on the streets and grew in love for others as they served.
