November 2008
WCHS student, Jon Tryby, was one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists named in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These scholastically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards. More than 1.5 million juniors in nearly 21,000 U. S. high schools entered the 2009 National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U. S high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout the high school years, be endorsed and recommended by the school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier qualifying test performance. Merit Scholarship winners of 2009 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July.

Jon’s favorite classes are Mr. Biggs’ AP Gov& Politics and World Civilizations.

We congratulate Jon for all his achievements!
