Go Heralds!

Herald History

At Whittier Christian High School, athletics is more than competition. It is a stage where students develop resilience, leadership, and a deeper understanding of who they are called to be. For over six decades, our student-athletes have trained hard, played with integrity, and grown in character, all under the banner of Christ. Whether on the field, court or track, Herald athletes pursue excellence with humility and heart.

Our legacy is rich and deeply rooted. From CIF titles in football, volleyball, baseball, softball and basketball to league championships across nearly every sport, the Heralds have been a consistent presence in Southern California athletics. Players from our school have gone on to compete in the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NCAA Final Four, and other major collegiate and professional arenas. But our true measure of success is not found in trophies. It is found in how our students walk forward, more disciplined, more confident, and more Christ-centered than when they began.

You can explore the full list of CIF titles, players of the year, and college-bound athletes at HeraldAthletics.com and here on our wchs.com website. Every season brings new stories. But each one continues the mission to raise up young men and women who compete with joy, lead with strength, and glorify God in all they do.

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

19 CIF Championships

Whittier Christian High School has built a proud legacy of CIF success across many sports, marking more than four decades of championship-level achievement. The story begins in 1979 when the football program captured its first title and set the tone for what would become a tradition of excellence. Additional football championships followed in 1983, 1984, 1990 and most recently in 2022. These teams showed grit and consistency across generations and established football as one of the school’s cornerstone programs.

That spirit of competition carried into other sports as the Heralds expanded their championship footprint. Baseball reached the summit in 1987 with a team remembered for its balance and tough-minded play. Boys basketball added another historic moment in 1989 with a championship season marked by senior leadership and disciplined intensity. These victories helped broaden the school’s athletic reputation during a time of significant growth and set the foundation for even stronger years ahead.

The early 1990s became a defining era for boys volleyball as the Heralds assembled one of the great dynasties in Southern California high school volleyball. Three straight CIF titles in 1991, 1992 and 1993 showcased a program built by Coach Dave Herron. This run of dominance remains one of the most exceptional achievements in school history and stands as an example of what happens when talent and culture align at the highest level.

Girls programs began forging their own outstanding legacy as well. Girls basketball earned back to back championships in 2007 and 2008 with teams known for resilience, teamwork and clutch performances. Softball followed with titles in 2005, 2009 and 2010, proving to be one of the most consistent programs of the era. Girls volleyball added championships in 2000, 2009, 2012 and 2013, extending the school’s reputation for excellence on the court and demonstrating the depth and strength of the entire athletics department.

Together these championships tell the story of a school that values commitment, perseverance, and high-level performance. From the early football titles to the volleyball dynasties to the sustained success of girls basketball and softball, Whittier Christian has built an athletic tradition that continues to inspire students and families. These teams and their accomplishments represent far more than trophies. They reflect the character and community that define Herald athletics year after year.
